THE ART AROUND US.

Header Onda Kane

THE ART AROUND US.

From the Dollar Tree Store Support Center to Helix and 555 Belaire, Summit Pointe is showcasing world-known artists at this new metropolitan center. One of the most dramatic is Nikolas Weinstein’s site-specific installation, Onda, in the lobby of Dollar Tree’s headquarters. Weinstein’s fabricated glass sculptures are designed to create a relationship between the architectural space and nature. Hailing from San Francisco, Weinstein’s installations are on display in museums and significant architectural structures around the world. (Pictured above left)

Dathan Kane is a contemporary artist born in Hampton, Va. His work emphasizes organic black/white abstract shapes to create bold compositions. His work is on display at Helix and other pieces are on display or owned by collectors in California, Washington, North Carolina, Virginia and China. (Pictured above right)

Mathew Curran is a stencil artist and muralist from England. His two-story mural enhances the lobby of 555 Belaire. (Pictured above left) Drawing from his international roots, Curran has developed a unique and personal style, which transcends a half dozen different mediums. Over the past decade, he has drawn from street life and hip-hop culture to focus primarily on stencil work. This 6’ x 10’ work, created with hand-cut stencils, has recently been installed on the second floor of 555 Belaire. (Pictured above right)

Susie Ganch’s site-specific sculpture is installed in the lobby of 555 Belaire. Titled Labor, this piece is from a body of work inspired by bridge constructions. Ganch is a first-generation American artist of Hungarian heritage. She is a sculptor, jeweler and educator living in Richmond, Va. where she is interim chair for the department of craft/material studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. (Pictured above)

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – (September 14, 2021) – Summit Pointe Realty, LLC is pleased to announce that M&M Hospitality Group has leased 10,148 square feet of signature restaurant space at Summit Pointe.

It’s newest offering, Cork & Bull, will be a true American chophouse and gathering place for thick, succulent cuts of prime, dry-aged Hereford beef. The menu will also include seafood and raw bar specialties from the Eastern Shore, Chesapeake Bay and other regional providers in addition to fresh Maine lobster. Private dining space will be available for private and corporate events.

M&M Hospitality Group is well known for its award-winning restaurants. The company, owned by Brian and Teresa Mullins, has brought four distinctive restaurants to the region including Vintage Tavern, River Stone Chophouse, Decoys Seafood and Amedeo’s Ristorante in Suffolk. The company also opened Bennett’s Creek Marina adjacent to Decoys Seafood and Amedeo’s Bakery. The new restaurant will be its first in Chesapeake.

Cork & Bull, located at 600 Belaire Avenue, will occupy a dramatic space in the vibrant Mosaic quarter of Summit Pointe, which is currently under construction. This latest addition includes $68 million of new construction with 270 luxury apartments, restaurants, shops and a public parking garage. The new restaurant space will be a focal point at the intersection of Belaire Avenue and Summit Pointe Drive. The distinctive space will complement other unique restaurants being created on the other corners of this intersection. The street-level space will include a colonnade with a plaza and outdoor dining.

“The development at Summit Pointe is a perfect fit for our style and philosophy of hospitality,” said Ken Dodd, partner, director of operations for M&M Hospitality Group. “It is the natural next step to bring our chophouse and raw bar expertise to Chesapeake. We can’t wait!”

“We are committed to bringing exceptional local restauranteurs and chefs to Summit Pointe,” said Chris Williams, senior vice president with Summit Pointe Realty, LLC. “Cork & Bull plays a key role in creating a vibrant dining and entertainment scene for our community. M&M Hospitality Group brings their own unique flavor to the dining experience and is a very welcome addition to Summit Pointe.”

Construction on Mosaic is currently under way, and it is anticipated Cork & Bull will open in fall 2022.

Chris Read, senior vice president, and Jeff Parker, senior vice president with Colliers, negotiated the lease on behalf of Summit Pointe Realty, LLC.

Summit Pointe is Coastal Virginia’s newest $330 million metropolitan center and lifestyle community, located on 69 acres in Virginia’s second most populous city. When complete, Summit Pointe will include more than one million square feet of office space, up to 500,000 square feet of retail space, approximately 250,000 square feet of hospitality and conference space, and 1,400-plus residences. Completion and occupancy of Helix, the first apartment building with 133 residences, was achieved in summer 2020. 555 Belaire, a six-story, 150,000-square-foot office building, was completed in early 2021. Susie Ganch Sculpture Installed at Summit Pointe Abstract steel wall relief is on view at 555 Belaire

Susie Ganch Sculpture Installed at Summit Pointe Abstract steel wall relief is on view at 555 Belaire

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – (August 10, 2021) – Richmond-based artist Susie Ganch has installed a custom-built sculpture at Summit Pointe, the new metropolitan center in Chesapeake.

The site-specific sculpture installed in the lobby of 555 Belaire is titled Labor. According to Ganch, Labor is from a body of work inspired by bridge constructions. The artist describes the sculpture as the collaboration of steel cables, creating a three-dimensional drawing that reveals how the incredibly strong material is also buoyant and active. Never the same drawing, the sculpture changes each time it is installed, celebrating spontaneity and process.

Ganch constructs works of art that are comprised of multiple interdependent parts. Held together by tension, her pieces have structural integrity but also flexibility and fragility. Ganch says this dynamic balance mimics the cooperative nature of the universe.

Ganch is a first-generation American artist of Hungarian heritage. She is a sculptor, jeweler and educator living in Richmond, Va. where she is interim chair for the department of craft/material studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. Ganch received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Part of her practice is Directing Radical Jewelry Makeover, an international jewelry mining and recycling project that continues to travel across the country and abroad. Issues of waste and cultural habits of consumption are imbued through her work.

Recent solo exhibitions include Have a Nice Day, Quirk Gallery, Richmond, Va.; How Soon is Now?, MS State University; TIED, an ArtForum Critics’ pick, Visual Arts Center, Richmond, Va.; and Land and Sea, Sienna Patti Contemporary Gallery, Lenox, Ma. Her work has been included nationally and internationally in museum exhibitions including: Smithsonian National Museum for Women in the Arts; MFA Boston; the Design Museum, London; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia; Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, Japan; Kohler Art Center, Sheboygan, WI and Milwaukee Art Museum. Public/private collections include: LACMA, Los Angeles, CA; Asheville Art Museum, NC; MFA Boston, MA; Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, MA; Metal Museum, Memphis, TN; Quirk Hotel, Richmond, VA; John Michael Kohler Art Center, Sheboygan, WI, and Kohler Company, Kohler, WI.

Ganch has received grant funding from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship, Peter S. Reed Foundation Grant; Theresa Pollack Fine Art Award, a VA Commission for the Arts Grant; and multiple VCU Faculty Research Grants. She is represented by Sienna Patti Contemporary Gallery. Learn more at www.susieganch.com and www.radicaljewelrymakeover.org.

Ganch’s work is displayed in the multi-story lobby that also includes a 26- by 20-foot mural painted by Matthew Curran.
